The Crippled Herring is the most versatile lure you'll ever use. It can be vertically jigged, cast and retrieved, and even trolled in both fresh and saltwater alike. Its high-action design takes advantage of the strong predator instinct programmed into game fish. Every Crippled Herring comes from the factory shaped for optimum action and sound. The 4-oz series is designed for lively action and is highly effective throughout the entire water column. The lure will most often be taken on the downward fall, and in cold water conditions, pausing at the bottom of the drop for up to three seconds helps connect with lethargic fish.

Quick How-To-Use Guide
-
Vertical Jigging: Always use a vertical, and not sideways, rod lift when vertical jigging. The vertical rod lift causes the lure to wobble upward and positions it for the critical downward fluttering action as the rod is dropped back toward the lure. Pay attention for taps and hesitations on the fall and set the hook when they happen. In cold water conditions, pause at the bottom of the drop for up to three seconds.
-
Casting and Retrieving: Cast the lure and use a slow pumping rod motion as the lure falls on a tight line, or speed-retrieve after a short count. Use high-quality ball-bearing swivels to prevent line twist.
-
Trolling: Can be used with all trolling techniques including flat lining, planer boards, planers, and downriggers. Unlike standard spoons, the Crippled Herring features a more frantic action with a pronounced sideways kick to either side. Change actions through erratic troll patterns or rod pumping to dramatically increase strikes.
